Swimming Lessons

Swimming Lessons start for K-9 students on January 27th, continuing on Tuesdays and Thursdays until February 12th. Please ensure your K-3 student comes to school with their swimsuit on underneath their clothes as we leave for lessons first thing. All students will need to bring a separate swim bag with a towel.

LCA Homeschool Open House

Are you interested in learning about home education and potentially pursuing it as an option for your family? We welcome you to join us at Lighthouse Christian Academy in Sylvan Lake from 6:30-8:30pm on March 25th. We will discuss our program, introduce staff, answer questions, talk about what home education is and look through and discuss a variety of resources.

School As Usual

Lighthouse Christian Academy is an independent school that is not represented by the Alberta Teachers Association. As such, our teachers will not be participating in the probable strike beginning on October 6th and we will have school as usual for the duration of the strike. Our thoughts are with the students, families, and teachers that are affected by the strike and pray that a fair and beneficial agreement for all is reached. Please reach out to the school office if you have any questions.

Back to School

Welcome back!

There is a “sneak peek” happening on Thursday, August 28 from 9-2. This is an opportunity for you to bring your child in and drop off their supplies, get a sneak peek at the classroom, and have a quick hello with the homeroom teacher.
First official day back to school is September 2nd. First bell rings at 8:20 – a good time to be dropping off your child would be about 8:15.
All supply lists are available under the Documents tab

Walk-a-Thon

We are excited to announce that we will doing a Walk-A-Thon on Friday May 23 to raise funds for the new school build. Family members, friends & community members are all welcome to join! An information packet went home on Monday, May 5th with the youngest student of the family. We are looking for volunteers (preferably those with first-aid experience) to help at water stations and along the route. If you are interested in volunteering or would like some more information, please call the school office.

New Build Update from the Board

Hello LCA family,

It is short notice but there is some super exciting information the board would like to share. You are hereby invited to a Sneak Peek this Monday, March 3 at 6:45 in Emerge Church auditorium. It is not August yet but this sneak peek cannot wait! The board has some colored drawings and blueprints, not your traditional black and white, they would like to show on the big screen with all who are able to come out. There will also be donuts available! There will be opportunity for questions and discussion. There is also a financial worksheet that gives projections based on different scenarios. You are welcome to bring friends and family that are supportive of Christian education in Sylvan Lake. The doors will open at 6:30 to give plenty of time to choose the best donut and to enjoy some informal conversation prior. We expect to wrap up by 8 or 8:15 as it is a school night. See you Monday.

New Building Fundraiser Kick-Off with Stockwell Day

We are excited to announce that keynote speaker STOCKWELL DAY will be joining us at the community centre for a special BREAKFAST event on SATURDAY, DECEMEBER 7th at 8:30 am. This event is a fundraiser for our new school building, and we are hoping to pack the house with supporters and community members. The venue has been booked and confirmed, so mark your calendars and invite everyone you know to come and hear from this inspiring speaker. It’s sure to be a morning filled with great food, great company, and great inspiration. Let’s make this event a huge success for our school!

Special Board Announcement

This announcement was made Wednesday, September 25th by our board chair:

Good evening, everyone! It’s a blessing to see all of you here today, our beloved school family, along with the new families who have recently joined us. This is a time of celebration, not just for being together but for the amazing journey we are on as a school community.

First, I want to take a moment to honor our incredible teachers, who have poured their hearts into educating our children with such love, dedication, and faith. They’ve been faithful stewards of the gifts God has entrusted to them, and we are so grateful for their service. Without their commitment, our school would not be what it is today.

As most of you know, we are a small but mighty school, and for years now, we’ve been educating our children in a humble space—in the basement of a church. In many ways, our journey has been like that of the Israelites who wandered in the wilderness for 40 years. But just as God faithfully led them, He has been leading us. And after almost 40 years of our own waiting, we have extraordinary news to share.

By God’s grace and faithfulness, Lighthouse Christian Academy has been blessed with a truly miraculous opportunity—access to almost 80 acres of land on the beautiful outskirts of Sylvan Lake, in the Birchcliff neighborhood! This is not just land; it is the future of our school and our children. It’s a place where we will be able to build the school we’ve always dreamed of—a place with classrooms that have windows (and what a view they’ll have!), a proper gym where our children can run, play sports, and grow strong, and even space for arts, music, drama, agricultural opportunities, and possibly trades apprenticeship opportunities.

The land itself feels like a glimpse of God’s abundance—so many acres overlooking Sylvan Lake. We see the opportunity to build what we like to call an “educational resort,” where our children will not only grow academically but in their faith, in the arts, in the trades, and in connection with God’s creation. What an incredible opportunity this is for our community, and we are beyond excited to see how God will lead us in the next phase of this journey.

Just as God has been faithful to us in the past, we know He will continue to guide us as we plan, develop, and eventually build on this land. In Luke 16:10, Jesus tells us, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” For years, we have been faithful with what God has given us, and now He is blessing us with something so much greater. We believe that God has stored up resources, opportunities, and partners who will step forward to help us in this new chapter.

We are also incredibly grateful to Premier Danielle Smith for her recent announcement about supporting the building of new schools, including private schools like ours. It is wonderful to know that our vision aligns with her commitment to education.

We cannot wait to see who God will call to walk with us on this exciting journey—parents, supporters, builders, and more. As we embark on this adventure together, we are filled with hope, faith, and joy, trusting that the same God who has led us this far will continue to provide in ways we could never imagine.

Thank you all for being here today and for being a part of our school family. Together, we will see God’s faithfulness unfold in ways beyond our wildest dreams.
